Senior Fabric & Compliance Technologist - 12 Months Fixed Term
ROLE PROFILE
The WHY
Working as a part of the product team the Senior Fabric and Compliance Technologist plays a critical role in ensuring that textiles and garments meet performance, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards throughout the supply chain.
Working closely with design, sourcing, production, and quality assurance teams the role ensures that all materials and products adhere to both internal specifications and external compliance requirements.
This role is key in maintaining product integrity, customer satisfaction, and legal conformity.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITY
The WHAT
Responsible for:
- Evaluating fabrics for physical and chemical performance (e.g., shrinkage, colourfastness Ness, pilling, tensile strength).
- Reviewing test reports and maintaining accurate records in line with brand and customer specifications.
- Working closely with product development teams to select appropriate materials.
- Working closely with design and garment technical team to provide raw material technical support and problem solving.
- Providing risk assessment on fabric and trim in development stage.
- Communicating with factories and suppliers to ensure they clearly understand Nadine Merabi’s fabric & trim requirements.
- Providing training and collaboration with factory and mill’s fabric representative.
- Setting up new fabric supplier meetings
- Co-ordinating with design on the raw material sourcing strategy and bring in new suppliers to meet the business.
- Reviewing fabric and garment testing reports to inform the generation of garment care label.
- Overseeing the fabric, trim and test report approval to meet the critical path.
- Maintaining fabric & trim pricing awareness.
- Building relationship with nominated mills.
- Overseeing Nadine Merabi’s sustainability, testing and compliance strategy for worldwide distribution.
- Maintaining awarenessever-changingever-changing global legislation and communicating updates to the wider business.
Accountable for:
- Maintaining Nadine Merabi’s raw material supplier matrix and fabric list.
- Maintaining the fabric and colour library and ensuring approval records are up to date.
- Developing and maintaining supplier testing manuals, ensuring standards are set and met.
- Managing Restricted Substance Lists (RSLs) and ensuring compliance with chemical safety requirements.
- Liaising with suppliers and testing labs to verify certifications and conduct risk assessments
- Monitoring and supporting sustainable material initiatives (e.g., GRS, Bluesign, BCI, ZDHC).
- Maintaining certification records and assisting and documenting traceability across the supply chain.
- Promoting sustainable practices internally and externally.
- Maintaining Nadine Merabi’s testing manual and the raw material testing regulatory up to date to meet global requirements.
- Standardising and approving bulk fabric, trim and colour and ensuring the quality to be shipped to nominated factory is up to standard.
- Standardising the linings and any other frequently used trims, so that Nadine Merabi can negotiate the best price.
- Ensuring worldwide and wholesale compliance for chemical and labelling standards. This would also include care instruction labels and disclaimers to prevent loss. Working with label supplier re translations into required languages.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The HOW
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in a similar role within fashion, apparel, or textile industries.
- Deep understanding of textile testing methods (AATCC, ASTM, ISO, etc.).
- Knowledge of global regulatory requirements (REACH, OEKO-TEX, CPSIA, ZDHC, etc.).
- Experience working with third-party labs and suppliers globally.
Experience working directly with global factories and fabric mills.
- Knowledge of colour evaluation and understanding of the colour terminology.
- Strong technical background in fabric construction, dyeing and finishing.
- Knowledge of global testing regulatory and sustainable is a plus.
- Proactive and quick thinking to fix issues to meet delivery dates on the critical path
- Proficient in Microsoft Ofice
- Ability to establish effective relationships to collaborate, persuade and influence at all levels.
- Able to shape & lead initiatives/change projects.
- Can interpret and analyse data and propose actions to drive positive change.
- Assertive, resilient, and tenacious with the ability to work well under pressure and overcome setbacks.
- Experience with trim suppliers that are both compliant and prepared to fully test each element to global safety standards.
- Good communication skills. Happy to present on behalf of your team to the department.
- Ability to manage and mentor assistant.
- The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to suppliers whose first language isn’t English.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and certifications.
- Experience using PLM systems or quality management tools.
- Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
